Race Report
Snetterton September 2014

The now regular return of truck racing to Norfolk and the famous Snetterton circuit was marked by a return to the usual 2014 truck racing weather (warm and sunny), a pleasant change from the torrential rain of the last day at Donington.

And with five of the eight rounds of the championship completed and Mat retaining his lead in the standings by just one point, it's fair to say the team were expecting a challenging weekend. So while it's perhaps not ideal to take advantage of the misfortunes of others that's exactly what the team were able to do on Saturday while our main challenger for the title, Chris Levett, struggled all day with a lack of brake cooling.

Saturday morning's practice proved the truck to be well set up and competitively quick. A third in class in the first race was a reasonable result given a start towards the back of the grid, especially as Snetterton is a track lacking in overtaking opportunities for the trucks. The second race of the day was better with a division 1 win in the first race along with fastest lap. Chris finished both races, albeit last in class, and gained six points on the day compared to our haul of eighteen! So, we finished Saturday having a thirteen point lead in the championship.

All good things, as they say, must come to an end and in Sunday morning's practice, while Mat was running more than a second a lap ahead of the rest of the field, Chris was lapping a second faster still. He won the first race of the day by 24 seconds while Mat finished sixth, his win in Saturday's last race putting him at the back of the grid. But the good thing about the reverse grid system is that the lower you finish in one race, the higher you are on the grid for the next one. And so Sunday's second race was another division 1 win for Mat who held off the pursuing Renault for the last five laps, in the process giving the crowds an exhibition of fantastically close - and it must be said, clean - racing.

Back of the grid it was again for the last race of the weekend but finish in third place, behind Chris and Steve Thomas, was a good way to finish the weekend. And despite the speed of the Renault on Sunday, the outright lap record for trucks at Snetterton remains Mat's 2012 fastest lap of 2:25.813!

So, two wins out of five and another third place can only be regarded as a good result which is thanks again to the reliability and speed of the truck and the support of what is an outstandingly efficient and harmonious team. So thanks to (in alphabetical order) Connor, Conrad, Den, John, Keith, Rick, Scott, "Steve" and Vince, with a special shout out to Andrea for the brilliant catering all weekend!

Now we head into the last two meetings of the season with a seven point lead, and we're looking forward to returning to Pembrey at the start of next month, confident we can continue our successful title defence!

But before that, we're off to Belgium on Thursday for a bit of "testing".

See you all in Wales!
